Tehran, Oct 4, IRNA
Iran-Boroujerdi-Nuclear
Head of Majlis Foreign Policy and National Security Commission Alaeddin Boroujerdi in a meeting with South African Ambassador to Tehran Yusouf Salouji here Wednesday said that the US claim about international anxiety over Iran's nuclear activities for peaceful purposes is baseless and a big lie.

According to a report released by Majlis Media Department, he referred to the support for Iran's nuclear case of various countries, including the Non-Alignment Movement (NAM) member states and said that Iran has taken many measures towards transparency and confidence building.

He pointed to talks between Iran's top nuclear negotiator Ali Larijani and the European Union Foreign Policy Chief Javier Solana on the issue and said that negotiation is the only way to solve the issue and that it is irreversible.

"Majlis will use all its legislative capacities to support the government's policy on the issue," he added.

Meanwhile, he appreciated South Africa for its support for the country's nuclear activities.

Boroujerdi expressed satisfaction over the growing trend of bilateral ties and said that there are plenty of potentials for expansion of such relations in various economic, industrial and cultural domains, which should be used to the optimum.

He assessed the outcome of the last joint economic commission meeting as positive and said that the Majlis supports raising the level of mutual bonds, in particular the inter-parliamentary relations.

For his part, the South African ambassador pointed to exchange of visits by high-ranking officials of the two countries and urged the need for further expansion of ties.

He added that Iran's nuclear dossier has nothing to do with the United Nations Security Council and that it should rather be treated within the framework of the UN nuclear watchdog.

The South African diplomat reiterated the need for broader cooperation between Tehran and Pretoria in film production and tourism as well as holding cultural and economic fairs.

Turning to the aggression of Zionist regime against Lebanon, he said that the victory of Lebanese Hizbollah over Israel was celebrated by the South African people.
