Minister of Foreign Affairs Manouchehr Mottaki referring to Iranian nation's right in being benefitted from the nuclear technology, said here on Monday, "Iran is currently seeking a way to make balance between its rights and its commitments." Pointing out the fact that Iran has been a member of the nuclear Non-proliferation Treaty (NPT) during the past 36 years, Mottaki said, "The reason for maintaining that membership has been benefiting of the rights its reiterates for its members."

The Iranian top diplomat who was speaking to a group of Iranians on the first night of the fasting month of Ramadhan at Imam Ali (PBUH) mosque after the fast breaking feast criticized the West's double standards in dealing with Iran's nuclear program.

He said, "Under such conditions that the United States and a few Western countries are strongly opposed to Iran's peaceful nuclear program, 116 member countries of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) recently defended Iran's rights in that respect in Havana, that can strengthen Iran's righteous stand in defending its nuclear right." The IRI Foreign Minister also criticized the performance of the UN Security Council, arguing, "The big world powers have gone so far in taking illegitimate advantage of the UNSC that they now intend to interfere in nations' internal affairs resorting to that body." He added, "The international community cannot yield to that diversion from international laws, because such a duty is beyond the tasks of the Security Council."

Mottaki added, "The presence of the Islamic Republic of Iran at the international scene, and the rational, and illuminating role it plays there, has called to challenge the unjust prevailing conditions in the world."

During the amicable meeting the Iranian foreign ministers called Iranian expatriates "the cultural ambassadors of the country abroad", reiterating, "Your presence at such gatherings can contribute to the feeling of unity among the Iranians in this country."
