Iran is not seeking a nuclear bomb because not only has it no place in today's relations, but also the Supreme Leader has ordered ban on nuclear bomb development, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad told reporters on Thursday.
Ahmadinejad said that according to the Non-Proliferation Treaty, every country is entitled to enjoy nuclear fuel cycle, saying that developing a nuclear bomb is not in Iran's doctrine.
"Iran does not need any nuclear bomb," he said, adding that nuclear bombs did not save USSR from collapse and did not prevent September 11 attacks or Palestinian intifada.
Asked whether Iran will help disarm Lebanon's Hezbollah, President Ahmadinejad answered that Iran is a strong nation which has a great spiritual influence.
"Iran has a multi-thousand-year-old history. Internal affairs of Lebanon are related to the Lebanese because people and groups there are capable enough," he said, adding that Iran supports all those who legitimately defend themselves.
He further said that he is in favor of peace, unity and stability in Lebanon and will spare no effort in this regard according to rules.
"Our stance towards Lebanon is completely transparent," he asserted.
About his meeting with Italian counterpart, President Ahmadinejad said the two sides exchanged their views.
"Our relations with Italy are good and we are interested in development of fraternal ties with all the other nations including Italy," he added.
