Iran-Nuclear-Larijani
The International Atomic Energy Agency's supervision over Iran's peaceful nuclear activities is the best guarantee, said Iran's top nuclear negotiator Ali Larijani in Damascus on Wednesday.
"The International Atomic Energy Agency's (IAEA) supervision on Iran's nuclear activities provides the best guarantee," said Larijani in a press conference when asked to comment on certain Arab states' concern over the operation of Bushehr nuclear power plant.
Larijani insisted that Iran's nuclear activities are for generating energy and conducted under IAEA supervision.
Asked about the possibility for Iran's likely agreement to temporary suspension of uranium enrichment as a requisite for resumption of nuclear talks, Larijani said, "That's an old report and we have ruled out the point.
"That's not something new, she had also already said so," said Larijani when questioned about the US State Secretary Condoleezza Rice's conditioning resumption of nuclear talks with Iran on suspension of uranium enrichment by the country.
"What's of importance is that talks should fall in a constructive course and we will continue with our talks with (the EU Foreign Policy Chief) Mr. Javier Solana."
As for outcome of his Wednesday talks with Syrian president and foreign minister, Larijani said Syria is friend and brother to Iran and the two are in close consultations with each other.
He said, "Our talks are mostly for establishment of an atmosphere of peace and tranquility in the region."
On the UNIFIL function, that is said to be beyond the framework of the UN Security Council Resolution 1701, Larijani said multi-national forces in Lebanon should act exactly within the framework of the regulations devised for them.
He said clashes are going on between Israel and Lebanon and UNIFIL has the duty to end them.
Larijani arrived in Damascus early Wednesday morning for a one-day visit.
