Iran-Pakistan-Nuclear
Visiting Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said here Friday that Iran's peaceful nuclear activities do not constitute a threat to any country.
Ahmadinejad, who is currently in Havana, Cuba, to attend summit of Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) developing nations, met with his Pakistani counterpart General Pervez Musharraf on the sidelines of the summit.
"The Islamic Republic of Iran has always been ready to hold fair talks on its nuclear activities. No change has been made in the country's policies.
"Iran is in the beginning of the path of access to fuel cycle.
The testing of atomic bombs of the third generation by the United States is dangerous," the Iranian president said.
He pointed to the illegitimacy of the Zionist regime and its outrageous desire to cause crisis after crisis in the region, saying "Peace and stability should be established in the Middle East by removing the main causes behind these crises."
"Iran proposed the holding of a referendum and giving the right to vote to all Palestinians including refugees as an easy democratic solution to establish sustainable peace and stability," he added.
Ahmadinejad expressed hope the volume of economic and trade exchanges between Tehran and Islamabad would receive a boost through finalization of the proposed IPI pipeline that would transfer Iranian gas to India via Pakistan.
Musharraf, for his part, stressed the importance of boosting relations with Iran in all fields, particularly in economic areas, and voiced his country's readiness to finalize a deal on transfer of Iranian gas.
He hoped the annual volume of exchanges between Iran and Pakistan would rise from its current USD 500 million to USD five billion with the signing of a preferential trade agreement between the two sides.
The Pakistani president praised the positive trend in efforts to resolve Iran's nuclear case and said Islamabad deeply opposes creation of a new crisis in the region that would serve no purpose except lead to instability and insecurity in Iran.
