Annan: Iran ready to negotiate on nuclear dossier

The UN Secretary General Kofi Annan, referring to his recent visit to Tehran, said Iran is ready to negotiate on its nuclear dossier.

Annan, who is visiting Saudi Arabia, in a joint press conference with Saudi Foreign Minister Saud al-Faisal in the port city of Jeddah on Monday said, "While Iranian statemen consider use of nuclear energy as their own right, they are ready to talk about it."

The UN head stressed that Iran's stance on nuclear policy has not changed and Tehran does not accept suspension of enrichment before negotiation.

Regarding the UN position on Iran's nuclear dossier, Annan said, "We persuade Iran and the UN Security Council members to return to the negotiation table.."

Kofi Annan, who is touring some Middle East countries, arrived in Jeddah, in west of Saudi Arabia, from Doha, Qatar.

The UN secretary general met with Saudi King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz and Foreign Minister Saud al-Faisal and discussed regional developments, especially Lebanese situation after the adoption of Resolution 1701, and exchanged views on Iraq and Palestine as well.

Annan will visit Egypt and Turkey after Saudi Arabia.
