Iran-Asefi-Nuclear
Foreign Ministry spokesman Hamid-Reza Asefi said here Sunday that the main world players in Iran's nuclear case advocate negotiations.
Asefi made the remark while addressing domestic and foreign reporters at his weekly press conference.
"Tehran believes that its nuclear case will be settled just through negotiations and other solutions would bear no fruits.
"An upcoming meeting to be held between Secretary of Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Larijani and the European Union foreign policy chief Javier Solana will determine next steps," he said.
He noted that the date and place of the meeting between Larijani and Solana have not been fixed yet, stressing that the meeting would be held in a very near future.
He termed "a psychological war" the issue of imposing sanctions against Iran, saying, "It is now the time to speak about negotiations.
Topics including sanctions are raised by Zionist circles to put Iran under pressure."
Asefi said implementation of the UN Security Council Resolution 1701 would be a "Lebanese strategy", adding, "Many Lebanese currents and political groups assess disarmament of the Hizbollah as illogical which runs counter to the realities of the country."
In response to a question on the current visit of former president Mohammad Khatami to the United States, the spokesman said, "I do not think Khatami carries any message from Iranian officials for the US." 2327/1414
