Foreign Ministry spokesman Hamid-Reza Asefi here Sunday advised European countries that if they behave properly, keep within reason and comply with international laws there will be no more problems.

He made the remark while briefing domestic and foreign reporters on his assessment of the upcoming meeting between Iran's top nuclear negotiator Ali Larijani and EU High Representative for Common Security and Foreign Policy Javier Solana at his weekly press conference.

"If reason dominates such negotiations and Iran's rights is not to be violated illegally, a solution can be reached.

"Of course, if the talks are to be conducted based on preplanned goals and become political, the situation will be quite different," he added.

In response to a question about disintegration of Iraq, he said that integrity of the country has been underlined by the Iraqi state officials and its neighboring countries.

Underlining that such disintegration will add another problem to the difficulties facing its people, he said, "Now that the Iraqis have gotten rid of the dictatorship of Saddam Hussein, they should live a comfortable and prosperous life.

"However, unfortunately this has not yet been materialized due to the US policies," he said.

Asefi hoped that Iraqi factions will solve their problems through negotiations and understanding.

Concerning the White House threats against Iran, the speaker said that this is nothing new, adding that their literature is not in line with the international atmosphere.

The speaker said that the American officials are always interested in speaking based on unilateralism and against the world public opinion, but Iran believes that such threats are irrational and not worth being noticed.

Stating that Iran is not worried about the US threats, he said, "The US is aware of our capacities and we take their threats as a psychological war."
