Call on Iran to stop fuel cycle in contravention with NPT, Saeedi

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Tehran, Aug 31, IRNA
Deputy Secretary of Supreme National Security Council for International Affairs Mohammad Saeedi said on Thursday that the Security Council resolution calling on Iran to stop fuel cycle is in contravention with Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).

Reacting to a report of International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on Iran's refusal to accept the call, Saeedi said that the context of the report well indicated Iran's full cooperation with the UN nuclear body.

"There is no justification in terms of international law and NPT regulations to stop the fuel cycle when all Iranian nuclear sites are under supervision of the IAEA," he said.

Saeedi said that there remains some outstanding issues that would be resolved through close cooperation with the agency in future.

On Tuesday, Secretary of the Supreme National security Council Ali Larijani said in his briefing to formal session of the Assembly of Experts that Iran is ready to give guarantees to European states that Iranian nuclear program will not be diverted to military purpose.
