Iran ready to give guarantees to European states on non-diversion in nuclear program

Tehran, Aug 29, IRNA
Secretary of Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Larijani said on Tuesday that Iran is ready to give guarantees to European states on the civilian nature of Iranian nuclear program and no diversion for military use.
He said in his briefing to the 16th formal session of the Assembly of Experts that unfortunately certain states from the Group 5+1 (five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council plus Germany) do not want Iran to produce nuclear energy.
Larijani said that five states from the Group 5+1 have announced their interest in resolving the crisis through negotiations away from the Security Council dictation.
He said that the package of incentives offered by the Group 5+1 had either positive or negative points and Iran accepted to continue negotiations on the basis of the package.
Larijani recalled the negotiations in Brussels when Iran had demanded enough time to consider earlier proposals of the European Union (EU), but, the European partners referred the case to the Security Council contrary to their promise not to do so.
He blamed US miscalculation for the controversy over Iranian nuclear program citing US procrastination over drafting resolution of the United Nations Security Council when the US officials were saying that Lebanese resistance movement would be ended in a matter of days.
"The US has again miscalculated matters concerning Iranian nuclear program. Washington believed that Iran will not give reply to the package of incentives of the Group 5+1, but, Iran gave a full response to the package as per a call from United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan on August 22."
