Speaker: Nuclear advancement for peaceful purposes to continue

Majlis Speaker Gholam-Ali Haddad-Adel here Sunday said that Iran's promising progress in nuclear technology for peaceful purposes will continue.

He said this while speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a meeting with members of Majlis Training and Research Commission to examine the role of environmental technology in development.

He referred to Arak Heavy Water Plant as a valuable achievement, adding that by producing heavy water Iran will make good progress in nuclear technology for peaceful purposes.

"The commissioning of the plant conveys the message that Iran's attempt to access nuclear technology is not restricted to a single dimension. Rather Iran has managed to develop its indigenous nuclear technology and no one can oppose it.

"We definitely do not intend to produce nuclear weapons, but are determined to use nuclear technology for peaceful purposes," he said.

Concerning assessment of the role of environmental technology in the country's development by Majlis Training and Research Commission, he said that experts in this field have presented good explanations on the world achievements on the issue and its importance.

He noted that the commission can contribute to such assessment by allocating the required budget and supervision.

In response to a question about recent criticism of the recently ratified bill according to which the government has to be authorized by Majlis to merge or dissolve state companies and institutes, he said, "Majlis is entitled to change any bill that it has ratified."
