Mottaki: Confidence-building is a two-way street

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Tehran, Aug 16, IRNA
Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said on Wednesday that confidence-building is a two-way process.

"Confidence should be built by the two sides and European states should look at the reality and understand the new regional conditions," said Mottaki in a farewell meeting with the outgoing German ambassador to Tehran Baron Paul Von Maltzahn here on Wednesday.

He criticized American officials for the literature they used in recent months in connection with Iran's peaceful nuclear case.

Mottaki said Iran's Islamic Revolution has always been trying to have understandable ties with other countries. "The Islamic Republic of Iran's ties with Germany have always been based on close and mutual understanding," he added.

The top Iranian diplomat also called for expansion of Tehran- Berlin ties in the economic and commercial fields.

Maltzahn for his part stressed peaceful settlement of Iran's case by convincing the other parties involved in the case.

He underlined the need to bolster commercial exchanges between Iran and German.
