Iran-Lebanon-Asefi
Foreign Ministry spokesman Hamid-Reza Asefi said on Tuesday that the United States has thrown the region into chaos to reach its ultimate goal of the new Middle East.
He told reporters on the sidelines of parliament's formal session that Iran always has an accurate analysis of situation in the Middle East and that it was predictable beforehand that Israel would wage an assault on Lebanon.
He said that Washington does not respect democracy and votes of the people living in the region and is after anarchy and tension in the Middle East to enable the occupying regime to survive.
Asefi said that the United States has objected to ceasefire from the beginning to secure Israel's free hand in its disproportionate attacks against Lebanese civilians.
"Let's remember that the Zionist regime which had been successful in paralyzing all Arab countries in its six-day war in 1967, has currently suffered defeat, thanks to resistance of Hezbollah. It indicates the significant power of Hezbollah."
"The fact is that despite all the aggressions on Lebanon, the Zionist regime is weak and vulnerable to Hezbollah," he said.
The spokesman criticized the United Nations Security Council for its inaction to Israeli aggression on Lebanon and said that Iran has urged Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) to take action against Israeli violence and hold an emergency meeting soon at whatever level it deems necessary.
Responding to a question why some interpret the attacks against Lebanese Hezbollah as a prelude to an attack on Iran, Asefi said it is somewhat a psychological warfare.
"The Zionist regime is acting on behalf of the US and the United States is doing on Israeli behalf and this is quite clear for all the Arab and Islamic states," he said.
He said that power of the Islamic Republic of Iran is crystal clear for all, adding that other Arab and Islamic nations should exercise vigilance to deal with such schemes to which they may be exposed.
Asked about the negotiations between Lebanese Prime Minister Fouad Siniora and US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, Asefi said that it would be positive when Siniora calls for an end to Israeli crimes.
Commenting on a letter from President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to French President Jacques Chirac, Asefi said that Iran's new ambassador to Paris Ali Ahani handed over a letter from the Iranian president to Chirac which is something ordinary and ambassadors often exchange such letters in the ceremony for delivery of credentials.
Replied to a question on Russian stand about Iranian nuclear program, he hoped that Russia would use its high capacity in the international community positively.
