Iran's official news media on Thursday condemned as "wrong" the decision of the six world powers to haul the Islamic Republic back to the UN Security Council over its suspect nuclear program.

According to the Daily Times, a commentary carried by the state news agency IRNA said the move by the five permanent members of the Security Council plus Germany was made "under US influence and would send the crisis into the depths of an abyss."
IRNA also condemned what it viewed as serious double standards in an effort to demolish the absolute right of a nation that has on hundreds of occasions emphasized its nuclear program was merely aimed at absolutely peaceful purposes.

The 5+1 foreign ministers' decision on Wednesday was adopted following a flurry of poisonous propaganda by US officials and mass media in the course of the past few days, it added.

Iranian officials gave various reactions on Thursday with Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki holding a news conference.

The decision to refer Iran back to New York came after the Islamic republic failed to respond to an offer of trade, technology and diplomatic incentives as well as multilateral talks in exchange for suspension of uranium enrichment work.

Iran says it only wants to enrich uranium to make reactor fuel and does not have the intention to produce a nuclear bomb.
