Iran-Larijani-Nuclear
Supreme National Security Council Secretary Ali Larijani here Sunday said that Iran considers Europe's proposal as serious and expects the issue to be solved properly.
Speaking to domestic and foreign reporters after meeting the visiting Turkish Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul, he said that Iran welcomes the return of its nuclear dossier from the United Nations Security Council to its normal course.
"Exchange of ideas with our allies will contribute to this end, in particular those having close relations with both sides can serve as good mediators for solving the issue," he added.
Larijani underlined that the issue can only be solved through negotiations.
Stressing that Iran will respond to Europe's proposal at the first possible opportunity, he said that specialized committees are now assessing the package.
In response to a question about the US policy based on toppling the government, he said that the 75-million-dollar budget of the US administration allocated to measures against Iran shows that their strategy is based on overthrowing Iran's government.
"Of course, this is a very small amount for overthrowing a government. Besides, we believe that such plans are rather the illusions and unfounded imaginations of the US administration.
"Such approaches are improper and no one in the region can disregard Iran," he added.
The SNSC secretary said that the EU Foreign Policy Chief Javier Solana is expected to visit Iran soon to discuss Europe's proposal with Iranian officials.
Concerning his talks with Gul, Larijani said that his attempts are appreciated by Iran and expressed satisfaction with such talks.
He referred to Gul and Turkey as a close friend and one of Iran's significant neighbors in the region respectively, adding that such exchange of views can contribute to solving Iran's nuclear issue.
For his part, Gul assessed his talks with Larijani as positive and said that at the meeting both sides had a sense of responsibility.
The Turkish minister hoped that Iran's nuclear issue will be solved through diplomatic means.
