TEHRAN, June 6 (RIA Novosti) - Iran Tuesday welcomed talks with the European Union's foreign-policy supremo, saying the meeting had been positive.

Javier Solana earlier Tuesday delivered a package of incentives developed by Iran-6 negotiators aimed at persuading the Islamic Republic to halt its controversial enrichment program. Iran has said it would consider the offer.

"We shall consider the proposals that have been made to us, after which Iran will give its answer," Ali Laridjani, the secretary of Iran's Security Council, said following more than two hours of negotiations.

Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said Iran would respond to the proposals based on its rights and commitments under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, and added that Iran would announce its position on the nuclear talks soon.

The package of incentives for Iran was put together at a June 1 meeting in Vienna by the foreign ministers of Russia, the United States, China, Britain, Germany and France.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said the proposals covered three areas - Iran's nuclear research program, economic and trade cooperation with Tehran, and security guarantees.
