Tehran, May 21, IRNA
Foreign Ministry Spokesman Hamid-Reza Asefi here Sunday said that the US is not in a position to give others security guarantee.
Talking to domestic and foreign reporters in this week's briefing session, he said the US itself needs to be given security guarantee, given the difficulties facing it.
"The US has not complied with its commitments to various states, including Iran," he added.
In response to a question about President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's recommendation to EU3 to take into view their own interests while making decision about Iran's nuclear issue, he said, "If we are faced with any challenge in this regard, Iran-Europe relations will also face challenge."
Turning to Iran's extensive economic relations with Europe, in particular southern European countries, such as Italy, he said that any challenge facing mutual ties will be more detrimental to Europeans.
"Given our favorable traditional relations with Europe, it is a pity to see EU3's unwise approach to Iran's nuclear issue make them face challenge," added the Foreign Ministry spokesman.
Concerning formation of Iraq's new government, he said that it is a pleasure to see that the Iraqi government has been established after three years of war in the country and despite the
procrastination of foreign countries.
Asefi congratulated the Iraqi officials and people on the formation of their new government and hoped that it will manage to build up a free, secure, stable and developed Iraq.
"We are determined to expand and strengthen ties with this brotherly country and are ready to establish long-term, sustainable and friendly bonds with it," he added.
