Iran will continue N-activities in accordance with NPT: envoy in Paris

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Paris, May 3, IRNA
Iran's Charge d'Affaires to France Ali Moujani said Tuesday that Tehran will continue its nuclear activities in accordance with its rights and obligations under the nuclear Non- Proliferation Treaty (NPT).

Speaking to domestic and foreign reporters at a press conference here, Moujani said Iran had so far been conducting nuclear activities in accordance with NPT rules and regulations and will continue to do so in the future.

The envoy stressed that Iran has cooperated with the UN nuclear watchdog and met its NPT obligations.

Asked to comment on the possibility war could erupt in the region, Moujani said "Iran will not countenance any irrational hostility in the region."
Furthermore, the envoy rejected the possibility Iran would use oil as a weapon in response to Western states' pressure on it.

He also strongly denied claims that Iran had ambitions of leading the Arab world.

"We are part of the Islamic world but we are not Arabs," Moujani said.

Moujani also criticized European and Western states for suspending financial support to the Palestinian nation, saying "it is not fair to punish a nation that has expressed its choice in a free and democratic election."
Moujani gave the press conference in response to an invitation by the Arab reporters club in Paris.
