Iran's first satellite, Sina-1 (Z.s.4), would render general services to the public, a telecommunication official has said here.
Managing Director of SA-IRAN, a telecommunication and IT products company, Ebrahim Mahmoudzadeh, told IRNA on monday that the satellite was to be used mainly for telecommunication purposes and taking photographs of the earth.
Being the first Iranian satellite, Sina-1 was manufactured in cooperation with Russia and launched to space from Polstesk space base in Murmansk province in northwestern Russia on October 27, 2005.
The satellite can also be used to photograph the natural disasters, resources and farmlands, said the official.
The exceptional distinction between Sina-1 and other similar satellites, Mahmoudzadeh said, "Is that Sina-1 can transmit images from all over the globe at any time of day and night while other satellites lack such capability and they may not sell their images easily from anywhere and at anytime."
Mahmoudzadeh added that Iran was ready to sell Sina-1 services to other countries if they so desire.
Sina-1 can transmit and receive a limited range of information on VHF and UHF frequencies with an accuracy of 50 meters.
The satellite is decorated with Iran's national flag and map including the Persian Gulf, which are painted on its exterior.
Sina-1 weighing 170 kg is equipped with two cameras and its life span is three years.
