Iran will continue its cooperation with the UN nuclear agency and will seek an acceptable venue for holding transparent talks with interested parties, Iranian Ambassador to the UN Mehdi Danesh Yazdi said Tuesday.

The Iranian envoy's remarks were made at the annual meeting of the UN Disarmament Commission, where he reiterated that Iran will abide by its commitments to the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).

Iran underscores its undeniable right to pursue peaceful nuclear energy and rules out undue restrictions on its nuclear activities, said the envoy.

He underlined the need to enforce international conventions, including the NPT, calling for global disarmament and elimination of chemical and biological weapons aresenals.

The continued existence of thousands of nuclear warheads in arsenals of nuclear powers compounded by their threat to use these dangerous weapons to achieve certain ends heighten global concerns for peace and security all over the world, he warned.

The UN Disarmament Commission's annual meeting opened on Monday and will conclude on April 28.

The commission, a subsidiary organ of the UN General Assembly, is responsible for reviewing disarmament and international security measures.
