China on Tuesday hoped International Atomic Energy Agency chief Mohamed ElBaradei would play a positive role in resolving Iran's nuclear case when he visits Tehran later this week.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Liu Jianchao's remarks were made during his weekly press conference.
China, a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) and current rotating president, gives great importance to ElBaradei's visit to Tehran and welcomes any positive role he would play in resolving Iran's nuclear case within IAEA rules and regulations, he said.
Beijing hopes the IAEA chief would help the international community settle the nuclear crisis peacefully and through diplomatic channels, he added.
Iran, as a signatory to the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), has repeatedly said its nuclear activities have been conducted within the framework of IAEA rules and regulations and under the supervision of its inspectors.
