The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps announced on Tuesday that its navy force is capable of defending the coastal areas and islands of the country in the face of any extraterritorial invasion.
"The missile unit of the IRGC navy force has deployed different kinds of surface-to-sea missiles and smart missile systems across 2,000 kilometers of the Persian Gulf coasts to defend the coastlines and islands against any foreign invasions," said Commander-in-Chief of the IRGC Major General Yahya Rahim Safavi on Tuesday following successful test-firing of `Misaq' and `Kowsar' missiles in the southeastern territorial waters.
Safavi said the Islamic Republic of Iran considers its successful missile test-firing as a defensive and deterrent force.
He said, "Iran wants durable peace, security and tranquility in the Persian Gulf, which would not be possible without pullout of foreign forces and occupiers from Iraq."
He noted that forces under his command on Tuesday successfully test-fired Misaq surface-to-air missile, which hit a high speed pilotless plane. "This indicates power and precision of the operating forces and units," he added.
The IRGC commander said that another missile, a surface-to-sea one called Kowsar, hit a target deep inside Oman sea. The missile is exceptional of its kind, he added.
