US failure to recognize the Islamic movement in the Middle East will cause further security challenges in the region which may lead to a permanent state of war, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mohammadi said.
"Regrettably I have to state that because of the wrong and contradictory policies of the US which are the result of incorrect assessments on the Mideast situation, the region is currently headed towards a permanent state of war," Mohammadi said in his lecture to an international conference on the Middle East sponsored by the Frankfurt Peace Institute in Berlin.
He called on the foreign powers in the region, especially the US, "to understand and accept the realities of the region".
Mohammadi who stressed during his speech that his statements did only reflect his personal views, added, "Most of the region's crises and security challenges over the past decades were triggered by foreign powers, specifically the US."
The Iranian official pointed out the so-called western plan of Greater Middle East lacked true understanding of the Middle East realities.
