China, Russia call for resolution of Iran nuclear issue through diplomacy

China and Russia, in a joint statement issued Tuesday, called for resolution of the Iran nuclear issue through diplomatic ways.
According to reports of the Chinese press on Wednesday, the statement was issued by visiting Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Chinese counterpart Hu Jintao in Beijing.
In the statement, China and Russia made the commitment to help advance nuclear disarmament and preserve the Non-Proliferation Treaty with respect to the current nuclear standoff.
The two presidents, who met in China on Tuesday, in their statement reiterated their commitment to stop the proliferation of nuclear weapons and end the arms race by releasing appropriate documents.
In the statement, the two sides further committed themselves to continue their efforts toward clearing the world of chemical and biological weapons as well as weapons of mass destruction (WMD).
Russia welcomed China's participation in its technology and missile control program, and both states stressed that the six-party talks provided the effective and practical ground for resolving the issue of Korea's nuclear activities.
In the statement both countries also urged confrontation of nuclear as well as financial terrorism.
President Putin arrived in Beijing for a two-day visit on Tuesday. After attending the joint economic assembly meeting, he left for Henan province in central China this morning.
