Majlis Speaker Gholam-Ali Haddad-Adel here Thursday criticized the West's dual attitude towards nuclear issues in the world, saying the opposition to Iran having a nuclear program runs counter to the rules and regulations of the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).
Speaking before a Majlis open session, Haddad-Adel criticized the International Atomic Energy Agency's decision based on a report of Director-General Mohamed ElBaradei to report Iran's nuclear case to the UN Security Council.
"The United States backs Israel, which has hundreds of nuclear warheads and is clearly a threat to the world, but opposes Iran's peaceful nuclear research," he said.
Iran has always cooperated with the IAEA on all its peaceful nuclear activities and stressed settlement of the case through negotiations. It called on the international community not to prevent small-scale nuclear research inside its soil based on regulations of the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).
Haddad-Adel pointed to nuclear states which have not signed up to the NPT including India and said, "We have no objection to India. We protest the US dual attitude. The Iranian nation understands this logic and cannot yield to such a bullying."
Referring to Iran's broad cooperation to build confidence, he added, "Iran has repeatedly announced it believes in the NPT. It opened doors of its (nuclear) facilities to the IAEA inspectors and implemented the Additional Protocol even before its approval at Majlis.
"No non-peaceful or military use have been reported on Iran's nuclear activities. We have always expressed our readiness for talks."
The speaker assessed as "unfounded and ridiculous" the nuclear proposals of negotiating sides on Iran nuclear case.
"They say they are ready to give fuel to us if we give them money. This is against previous agreements."
He said such a demand was an insult to the Iranian nation, adding, "They intend to deprive us of energy that all the world obtained and our scientists achieved by themselves.
"The Iranian nation thinks this issue has a link with the country's independence. The pressure exerted by the United States is the opposite point of our independence."
He stressed that the Iranian people will not renounce their rights, saying, "The nation knows its rights and is aware that enemies intend to take their independence from them."
The speaker pointed to massive turnout of the Iranian people at Bahman 22 rallies, and said, "The nation announced that it regarded peaceful nuclear energy as its inalienable right. The US officials should know the Iranian nation is wise enough and is aware of their dual attitude.
"I, on behalf of a Majlis which is the mouthpiece of the Iranian nation, announce that Iran is not after something beyond its inalienable right and will never renounce it.
"As long as the US makes no change in its attitude towards Iran, our hatred of the US will remain.
"Majlis will continue to insist on the nation's rights on nuclear case."
