Iran is determined to continue its peaceful nuclear activities as well as suspend implementation of the Additional Protocol to the Non-Proliferation Treaty, a senior Iranian official said here Tuesday.
The Supreme Leader's representative to the Supreme National Security Council (SNSC), Hassan Rowhani, made the remarks while talking to reporters during the inaugural ceremony of the 15th Assembly of Experts session.
"The Additional Protocol will be implemented only if the world agrees not to send Iran's nuclear dossier to the UN Security Council."
Talking about Iran's decision to resume its nuclear activities, he said: "Iran agreed to suspend (its nuclear activities) for a short period, but the West began a broad disinformation campaign (against Iran) so we decided to end the moratorium because the West has shown its refusal to cooperate."
"Iran made the decision to resume its nuclear activities when referral of its nuclear case to the United Nations Security Council became an issue in the IAEA," he added.
He stressed that Iran was left with no alternative but to resume its nuclear research.
"A resolution was issued against Iran in February and our dossier was reported to the UNSC."
He said Iran "has spent (money) for research and cannot suspend it," adding that "although consultations are under way, no compromise has been reached as yet."
Rowhani believes there are no reasons justifying the West's concerns over Iran's peaceful nuclear activities, and dismissed allegations it wants to produce a nuclear bomb, saying "twenty centrifuges cannot be a cause of concern for the world."
Asked about the possibility of a military confrontation, he dismissed the threat, saying "there is no possibility of a war or military confrontation."
