Iran-IAEA-Meeting
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Board of Governors ended its Monday session in Vienna with Iran's nuclear program being one of its main topics.
The IAEA Governor General Mohamed ElBaradei delivered a speech on "Nuclear Power" Nuclear Immunity" and "Nuclear Research" in today's meeting for the 35 members of the IAEA governing board.
Referring to the North Korean nuclear program, he said the IAEA Board of Governors is to cooperate with North Korea and other countries involved in the issue in a bid to find a comprehensive solution and provide the North Korean and international community with required guarantees about the country's peaceful use of nuclear technology.
Referring to Iran's nuclear activities, he said the agency has conducted a very comprehensive research on Iran's nuclear plans to make sure of the peaceful nature of such activities.
During the investigations, the agency did not confront with any signs to indicate the country's deviation towards production of nuclear weapons or any other nuclear explosives.
"As mentioned in my report, what has caused the agency to avoid making an explicit comments on Iran's nuclear activities, is the country's nuclear activities in the past," he said.
Iran should make its utmost to give assurance that its nuclear activities is of peaceful nature, he said.
Out of the 35 members of the IAEA board of governors, 16 are members to the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM).
NAM members have recently reached an agreement on issuing a statement in support of Iran's nuclear activities.
In their 12-article statement, the NAM member states reiterated that reviewing Iran's nuclear case must remain within the framework of the agency.
