The European Union (EU) never wanted Iran to extend moratorium on uranium enrichment to 10 years, Secretary of Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Larijani said on Sunday.
Responding to a question whether Iran would agree to a medium term suspension period between two and ten years, Larijani said that Iran has high flexibility in diplomatic exchanges and "we never heard such a 10-year moratorium demand on the part of EU.
"Maybe, I have developed hearing difficulty, because, I never heard such a proposal from the EU during several rounds of talks with them," he said.
Asked about process of negotiations with Russia, he said that Iran did its best to provide Russia with an opportunity to put forward its proposal.
"If Iranian nuclear program is reported to Security Council, there will remain no place for Russian proposal," Larijani said.
Responding to a question whether Iran would stop research studies, if the UN Security Council obliges Iran to do so, Larijani said that Iran regards research studies as its sovereignty right and thus it makes no difference which organ is going to deprive Iran of its legitimate right.
"Such a demand is illogical whether to be made by IAEA or the Security Council. It is not acceptable and the Islamic Republic defends the national interests of the Iranian nation."
"If any formula is found to respect Iranian national interests, Iran will consider and welcome it."
Asked when Iran will resume uranium enrichment, he said that Iran possesses the enrichment technology and does not need others and would do so whenever it deems it necessary.
"Of course, Iran would speed up uranium enrichment if it observed improper action concerning its national program," Larijani said.
