Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council Ali Larijani here Wednesday assessed the recently concluded bilateral talks between Tehran and Moscow on the nuclear issue as "constructive."

Larijani made the assessment while talking to reporters after concluding talks with Hamas' Political Bureau chief Khaled Mashaal.

"Recent negotiations between the Iranian and Russian delegations were good and constructive which can result in positive achievements in the future," he said.

Asked whether the Russian nuclear offer would be the only proposal for Iran's consideration, he said, "The offer is among proposals that could be finalized."
"The two sides have made progress in finalizing the offer. We hope it will have the means to settle the nuclear case in the future."
Larijani further said that Iran "expects the Russian government, as a neighboring state with which it has industrial and nuclear energy cooperation, to play a role in resolving the issue." He said his Russian counterpart, the head of Russia's Federal Atomic Energy Agency (Rosatom) Sergei Kirienko, will pay a visit to Iran in the near future, and added that "nuclear talks with Russia will be continued on Friday and Saturday."
The SNSC secretary said that details of the Russian proposal were expected to be discussed.

Asked about the outcome of the recent visit of Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki to Brussels, Belgium, he said, "The Islamic Republic of Iran strives to reach a formula on nuclear issues within the framework of the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and through talks.

"Unfortunately, the Europeans cancelled the nuclear talks and acted in such a way that we were obliged to resume peaceful nuclear activities in accordance with the law passed by Majlis (parliament)." But, he continued, Iran has not closed the door to negotiation with Europe and other countries in order to arrive at a formula (for resolving the issue) precisely and with transparency," he said.
