Iran-Velayati-Confab
Threats made by the US and its allies against Iran have no strong support, said advisor to the Supreme Leader for international affairs, Ali-Akbar Velayati on this Persian Gulf island on Sunday.
Addressing the closing ceremony of a conference on Iran-China cooperation in oil, gas and petrochemical sectors as well
as in new energies, Velayati stressed that the sensitive global economic situation could not tolerate insecurity in the (Middle East) region.
"Iran plays a major role in the Middle East," stressed the former foreign minister, noting that any development in the region would have a fundamental influence on the economic and political situation of the world.
Iran would insist on its stance over the nuclear issue and would never abandon its inalienable right for using peaceful nuclear technology, Velayati stressed.
He noted that world policy-makers would eventually have no option but to compromise with Iran.
Stressing that the West would continue pressurizing Iran, if it realized that the country might caves in to the pressures, the official said "Any retreat would pave the way for exerting further pressures on Iran."
Turning to the issue of a nuclear-free Middle East, Velayati said that Iran supported the idea calling for removal of all nuclear weapons from the region.
Referring to the Iran-China conference, Velayati expressed hope that the two-day forum could have helped promote further cooperation between the two capitals.
The conference was attended by Iranian and Chinese experts and officials from the oil, gas, petrochemical and energy sectors who discussed prospects of cooperation between Iran and China.
