Iran sees Additional Protocol as objective guarantee, Europeans do not

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Tehran, Feb 19, IRNA
Iran-Nuclear Program-Objective Guarantee
Deputy Secretary of Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) for international affairs Javad Vaeidi said on Sunday that charter of International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) specified voluntary implementation of Additional Protocol to Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) as 'objective guarantee', whereas the Europeans describe objective guarantee' in a way that it differs from the criteria of the United Nations.

He said that Iran respects criteria of IAEA which at the same time recognizes Iran's right to use nuclear energy.

Asked whether a proposal has been offered to Iran to reach a solution, he said that Iran would study details of any proposal on Iranian nuclear program.

"Western nations should not deal with Iran with double standard and discriminatory approach. We made it clear before February 4 that Iran is working on uranium enrichment at research level and it has nothing to do with fuel cycle industry," Vaeidi said.

"We started research studies in January and told the Europeans that research studies have nothing to do with fuel cycle, but, they embarked on false propaganda campaign that Iran is producing fuel in Natanz," he concluded.
