Iranians proved not to cave in to US: Speaker

Tehran, Feb 17, IRNA
Iran-Cuba-Speaker
Majlis Speaker Gholam-Ali Haddad Adel, said in Cuba Thursday evening that Iranians have proven during the past 27 years that they would never cave in to the US and would not give up their independence.

According to the Majlis press bureau the speaker, currently on the third leg of his eight-day South American tour, made the remarks in a meeting with President of Cuba's National Assembly Ricardo Alarcon.

Haddad Adel praised Tehran-Havana cooperation in the international forums and called, particularly, for further bilateral cooperation in the United Nations Human Rights Commission and its Disarmament Commission.

Stressing that Washington practices a discriminatory attitude towards world countries, the speaker referred to the US officials' refusal to issue visas for Iranian and Cuban heads of parliaments who were to participate in the latest interparliamentary summit in New York.

"We regret that the human rights has become a tool in US hands to impose more pressure on independent countries while the world is now witnessing the exact case of human rights violation in the Guantanamo and Abu Ghraib prisons," argued the speaker.

He added that the present conditions in Afghanistan and Iraq as well as the recent landslide victory of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) in Palestine were indicative of the fact that world nations would finally find their own way to salvation.
