Any attack on Iran would boost national unity: ambassador

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Madrid, Feb 15, IRNA
Iran-Spain-Ambassador
Iranian Ambassador to Spain Morteza Alviri said here Tuesday that any attack on Iran would further unify the people and political parties.

In an interview with the Spanish state-run news agency EFE, Alviri said that any attack against Iran's nuclear facilities by a foreign enemy, the US or Zionist regime, in particular, would be "a big mistake."
The ambassador's remarks came a few days after reports surfaced of possible US military strikes on Iran's nuclear facilities.

Iran has a population three times more than that of Iraq (68 million) and has an area four times larger than this western neighbor (1.65 million sqm) Alviri said, and added, "Iran is not Iraq," suggesting that one could hardly even think about attacking it.

He noted that the threats of military action against Iran would only lead to higher oil prices in the world market which is already buckling from all-time highs.

Alviri further stressed that Tehran has not closed the door to talks on the nuclear issue and believes that diplomacy is the best way to settle the current standoff with the West.

The ambassador then cautioned that any referral or reporting of Iran's nuclear case to the United Nations Security Council by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) after the scheduled March 6 meeting of its Board of Governors would lead to "very negative consequences."
