Deputy head of the Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) for International Affairs, Javad Vaeidi, here Tuesday said that Iran will continue its cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) according to the international laws.

He added that Iran will continue efforts to access peaceful nuclear technology in accordance with the relevant agreements and that at the same time it will proceed to collaborate with the agency.

"Iran has so far avoided any counteractive measures. It has rather paved the way for understanding and exchange of views.

"The historical memory of the Iranians, who are known to possess the richest human civilization, does not contain such a humiliation. Meanwhile, Iran is now seeking a more significant role for itself in the region," added the official.

He referred to the next stage of the West's proposal on suspension of the resumed nuclear activities which was rejected by Iran, because Iran was after a formula to attract the confidence of the other side which will not be in conflict with such activities.

"During the new round of Iran-EU3 talks, Iran announced that every country is entitled to nuclear research and that it was humiliating to prevent our scientists' thinking. What made them report our nuclear dossier to the UN Security Council (UNSC), given that the Iranian nation has done nothing wrong?
"Research mainly aims to develop the country based on expansion of knowledge. The West believes that given research depends upon individual potentials and indigenous technology, it will cause strategic leap in Iran," he added.

Vaeidi pointed to nuclear energy as the most basic of all existing energies and said that the Westerners believe that resumption of research in the sector will secure Iran's access to nuclear energy.

"A country such as France supplies more than 80 percent of its power from nuclear energy. A while ago, despite the gas agreement signed between Russia and Ukraine, Russia interrupted the gas flow to Ukraine.

"This is a critical issue even facing Europe, which intends to rid itself of reliance upon Russia for supplying its required energy. However, in our case, they question the reason we need nuclear fuel," said Vaeidi.
