Larijani: Diplomatic conditions to change in future due to Europe's move

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Tehran, Feb 6, IRNA
Iran-Nuclear-Larijani
Iran's top nuclear negotiator Ali Larijani said here Monday that due to Europeans' recent move in the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Board of Governors the diplomatic conditions as well as the type of diplomatic activities will change in the future.

Asked after the closed-door session of Majlis what he meant by "end of diplomacy", Larijani said, "Our aim in choosing diplomatic channel was to reach a point through negotiations that Iran can have uranium enrichment technology and its non-diversion can be evident to Europeans."
Europeans refused to tread this path and change the course of the country's nuclear dossier by openly announcing that they did not have the diplomatic capacity to solve the problem, said Larijani.

To a question, Larijani said Russian proposal is worth being mulled, adding "Our views about the proposal today is the same as before."
Any proposal offered by other countries on Iran's nuclear issue should be studied by Iranian diplomats and such proposals should take into consideration Iran's rights, said Larijani, adding this is not something which can be solved in a meeting.

Asked whether Iran's case will be put back on its normal course after the March report of the IAEA Chief Mohammed ElBaradei, Larijani said under present conditions various choices are ahead of the world.

Elsewhere in the interview, Larijani said enrichment and production of nuclear fuel are not something funny for Iran or other countries, rather, prospect of national development depends on the nuclear fuel technology.

"Although our country is an oil-rich one but this last for a specific period of time. If today we do not think about Iran's future we should know that we may be deprived of such a capacity." 1420/2322/1412
