A group of lawmakers on Sunday strongly criticized Saturday's decision of the International Atomic Energy Agency's (IAEA) Board of Governors to report Iran's case to the UN Security Council.
"We should stand up to Western pressure to regain our rights for peaceful nuclear program," Majlis deputy from Sabzevar (Khorasan province) Ahmad Bozorgian said in an interview with IRNA here on Sunday.
Bozorgian said the Board's decision was predictable in light of the wrong policies of the West.
He said any country is in pressing need of nuclear technology in order to ensure its development, therefore, Majlis should resist to defend interests of the Islamic Republic.
He supported President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's order to put halt the voluntary suspension of nuclear research and said, 'resistance against unjust demand of the West and support for nuclear scientists and officials of the country is a duty under present conditions'.
He said that henceforth, the additional protocol has no practical value and the ground should be prepared for enrichment given the insincerity of the West and its pressure on Iran to give up its legal right.
"Issuance of resolution against Iran is a lever for exerting pressure and one should not surrender to it," he added.
MP from Isfahan Hassan Kamran told IRNA that based on Article 77 of the Constitution, the NPT is a treaty and Majlis should put forward a legal explanation on whether it should be permanent or not.
Kamran said Iran's National Consultative Assembly approved NPT in 1969 and the legal commentary, provided by certain individuals, shows that the Treaty is permanent.
Vice Speaker of Majlis Mohammad-Hassan Abutorabi-fard said Iranian people and Majlis will not compromise on their right and will take a strong and powerful stand to attain nuclear technology.
Abutorabi-fard said the Islamic Republic of Iran should attain the technology and benefit from it for peaceful purposes by using domestic nuclear experts.
