IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Tehran, Feb 5, IRNA

Foreign Ministry Spokesman Hamid-Reza Asefi here Sunday commenting on the Saturday resolution of the UN nuclear watchdog to report Iran to the Security Council, said, "The Security Council is not the end of the world."
He added, "Iran has chosen its path wisely. We have devised strategies for all cases."
Talking to domestic and foreign reporters at his weekly press conference, he stressed, "The opposite side will sustain more damage through reporting Iran's nuclear case to the UNSC. We have been and are ready for such conditions."
Turning to the eight-year imposed war, he said, "The Islamic Republic of Iran has left behind with honour a more difficult situation wisely during the imposed war."
Asked about the decision made during the emergency session of the IAEA's Board of Governors, he said, "As I had announced previously, this emergency session was politicized and unnecessary.

"If a session is politicized, its results are determined in advance.

"The board session was so politicized that no attention was even paid to the viewpoints of the International Atomic Energy Agency chief Mohamed ElBaradei on presenting a report in March."
Referring to pressures imposed by certain Western states in the session, the spokesman said,, "It is natural that weak countries and those states who have a limited capacity for diplomacy were overtaken by such pressures."
Turning to the IAEA resolution, he praised the stance adopted by the countries who voted against or abstained saying Iran will have this issue in mind.

The Board of Governors of International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on Saturday approved a resolution adopted by the European Union troika (Germany, France and Britain) on Iran.

The resolution was passed with 27 votes in favor and three against while five members abstained.

Cuba, Venezuela and Syria voted against the draft resolution while Algeria, Belarus, Indonesia, Libya and South Africa gave a vote of abstention.
