Member of Parliament and head of Majlis Commission on Media and Arts Saeed Abutaleb said on Saturday that resolution of International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) accounts for a new threat to Iran and God willing Iranians will turn it into a national opportunity.

He told IRNA that Iran made every effort in the past three years to build confidence with the international community and under the current circumstances, the country should utilize economic leverage to deal with the West's new threat.

"Just like in the past, when Iranians took advantage of the economic sanctions to reach self-sufficiency, now, once again Iran should speed up process of development envisaged in the 20-Year Strategy for Economic, Social and Cultural Development (2005-2025) to thwart Western pressures and become an economic power in the region.

"Of course, the process of approving the resolution was a success for Iran's confidence building actions in the past three years, because IAEA governing board could not reach consensus and the European states put the resolution they had drafted to voting," he said.

He said that the government is expected to put into practice the parliament's approval which obliges it to suspend all voluntary actions Iran took in the past three years for confidence building if the Board of Governors opts for reporting Iran to Security Council.
