Iran-Nuclear-Larijani
The time for implementation of the Majlis ratification on the voluntary suspension of certain nuclear activities depends on Iran itself, said Iran's top nuclear negotiator Ali Larijani here on Wednesday.
"What I said was Majlis approval: we should both stop voluntary implementation of the additional protocol and take action to resume the activities; the date depends on ourselves and we will do the job at an appropriate time," said Larijani when asked by an AFP reporter whether there will be any overlapping in the timing of
non-implementation of the additional protocol and resumption of enrichment and whether Iran's stances will subject the country sooner to the sanctions in case of change in stances of Russia and China.
Also asked by AFP about Iran's stance in case of the referral of its nuclear dossier to the UN Security Council, Larijani said, "Certainly, if they refer Iran's case to the Security Council, we will expedite the job."
With regards to stances of Russia and China, Larijani said, "The countries have reasoned that they have taken great pains to solve the issue and tried to ensure that the problem is settled in a favorable manner."
He added, "We cannot prevent others from making any comment; I think there might be other options.
"But as for the consequences of referral of Iran's case to the UN Security Council, it should be said there are many issues; the issue of sanctions is the one which has made them more worried than us." Larijani recalled that at a meeting in Germany oil prices began to rise immediately after several European states spoke of sanctions.
"If they do the job (imposing sanctions), it will not be only us who would suffer; they will suffer more than us," he added.
The way for confrontation is not closed for Iran, said Larijani, adding, "We do not recommend them to use such mechanisms; but if they do use them, they should bear the consequences.
"Doors to dialogue are not yet closed; I think, prudent individuals in the said countries can assess their conditions; Under the condition when they are behaving nervously, what a sort of achievement they can gain?
"They may opine we will inflict losses on Iran but what will they gain themselves; what benefit will they gain from the issue economically?
"A little thought on the issue will show that the game will not have any winners," said Larijani.
