A group of Iranian parliamentarians in a letter to the UN Chief Kofi Annan stressed Iran's right for peaceful use of nuclear energy.
"Based on the UN Charter, one of the important political duties of Your Excellency is to solve international crises; based on the UN Charter, the International Atomic Energy Agency's (IAEA) charter, and the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, peaceful use of nuclear energy is the undeniable right of every country, including the Islamic Republic of Iran," read the letter.
"Unfortunately, despite such an explicit assertion in the international documents, certain governments possessing nuclear weapons, prevent other countries from making scientific achievements for development and welfare of nations and they turn the issue into a dangerous crisis which can endanger world peace and security.
"Here, Your Excellency's duty become graver and vital to prevent ccurrence of artificial crisis and do all within your power to prevent world peace and security from being jeopardized," the letter said.
Absolutely, the letter read, what jeopardizes world peace and security is not conduction of research and use of nuclear energy but threats against the countries which abide by commitments based on the IAEA Charter and conventions.
