Iran-Elham-Nuclear
Iran's nuclear policy is based on brave and logical defense for national interests, Government spokesman Gholam-Hossein Elham said here Monday.
He said in his weekly briefing to the press that "there is national consensus on the nuclear program."
In response to a question on recent statement of Chairman of the Expediency Council Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani who called for resolving standoff over nuclear program in a way to bring Iran-EU crisis under control, Elham said that The Islamic Republic of Iran should not and cannot overlook its inalienable right in the context of
Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and and that Iranian nuclear program is in line with Safeguards Agreement of International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
"Contradictory remarks by Western officials about national nuclear program show that Iran is politically, economically and spiritually powerful and enjoys broad international support," he said.
The spokesman added, "Iran has potentials to obtain and safeguard its inalienable rights in all fields including diplomatic area with full strength."
Commenting on President Jacques Chirac's recent remark, Elham said, "The international community has previously witnessed such threats against Iran. Such threats are against international law and conventions which should be honored by members of the United Nations." "The international community is expected to make another evaluation about European views and policies on international peace and security," Elham said.
"Iran calls for developing political, economic and cultural ties with all countries."
He stated no hasty decision should be made and at the same time Iran's interests should be respected.
Majlis Speaker Gholam-Ali Haddad-Adel on Sunday branded as shameful the French President Jacques Chirac's recent threat of a nuclear strike on any state that launches terrorist attacks against France.
"The French people must be ashamed of the statements by their president, who in the post-Cold War is seeking pretexts to use nuclear weapons," he added.
