Iran-Rafsanjani-Nuclear issue
Expediency Council Chairman Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani said here Monday that acceptance of Iran's legitimate right to produce nuclear energy would be beneficial to Europe and the region.
Rafsanjani's remarks were made at a meeting of clergymen, governors-general and officials of this northeastern province.
"The nuclear arena is one area where the Europeans seem to have problems making one enormous decision.
"This is because they are aware that Iran has tremendous potentials, national support and experience," he said.
He, morever, said that Iran has been increasingly showing its capacity to use its domestic potentials to achieve its goals and so it is being prevented from moving forward and entering a new phase of activity, and added that in this regard "we should be vigilant." Alluding to the impasse on the nuclear issue, the EC chairman stressed the importance of reaching a serious compromise, adding that the "interests of the system and Islam should be given priority before everything else."
He said past experiences and jurisprudence should help reinforce national unity on the issue.
He noted that Iran currently has good standing in the scientific field, including in nano technology and in other areas of modern technology, including information technology (IT).
"Iran is a powerful country. We have a high degree of technology and industrial expertiese. We are a reliable power in the Third World.
"Today, we can build all needed infrastructure by ourselves. In the military sector, we are trying to meet our needs without having to call on others although we have been in difficult situations due to war or sanctions."
