Vice-President for Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Ahmad Mousavi and the Algerian People's National Assembly Speaker Amar Saadani in a meeting in Algiers on Saturday criticized the dual approach of the West and US towards peaceful use of nuclear energy by other countries.
At the meeting, Mousavi expounded on Iran's extensive cooperation with the UN nuclear watchdog on transparency of its peaceful nuclear activities, which still continue.
"While the Zionist regime does neither face any pressure nor criticism by West despite having stockpiled nuclear arms and weapons of mass destruction, a country such as Iran is under pressure for using its inalienable right to access peaceful nuclear energy.
"If the West and US were honest in their claims, instead of trampling on the nations rights to access peaceful nuclear technology, they would have prevented Israel's nuclear activities and stockpiling nuclear weapons, which threaten the whole region," he added.
Stressing that both Iran's government and nation will not withdraw from defending their rights, he urged that cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency and Europe for further transparency should continue.
For his part, Saadani said that his country supports Iran's right for peaceful use of nuclear energy.
The two officials declared the readiness of their parliaments for expansion of multifaceted ties, particularly in parliamentary fields and collaboration between the parliamentary friendship groups of both countries.
The Iranian vice-president arrived in the Algerian capital on Friday evening on a three-day visit.
Mousavi and his entourage were welcomed at Algiers Houari Boumediene Airport by Vice-Speaker of the Algerian People's National Assembly Konai Mohamed.
Speaking to reporters upon his arrival, the Iranian official said the strategic situation of Iran and Algeria calls for further bilateral relations and exchange of visits between officials of the two countries.
Mousavi added that in addition to holding talks with
senior Algerian officials, he is in the north African country to invite the Speaker of the Algerian People's National Assembly Amar Saadani to attend an international conference in Tehran.
The conference is scheduled to be held by Majlis in support of the Palestinian nation in early spring.
