Iran says nuclear research not part of talks

Supreme NationalSecurity Council (SNSC) spokesman Hossein Entezami said Saturday Iran's talks with Europe on the nuclear issue had to do with enrichment and not nuclear research, which is out of the agreed agenda.

Nuclear research is a totally independent subject and Iran has already informed the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and Europe regarding this matter, he told IRNA.

Besides, he said, "Mr Larijani, in a press conference and before the resumption of the Tehran-EU trio talks, had made it known that Tehran was determined to resume nuclear research."
"Iran's decision to conduct nuclear research is serious," said the spokesman.

The three issues -- Russia's proposal, continuation of talks with Europe and cooperation with the nuclear agency -- are entirely separate issues, the security spokesman noted, adding that although the issues may have something in common they were not correlated.

He underscored Iran's position that cooperation with the IAEA was totally independent from talks with Russia on its (Russia's) proposal.

"We have to carefully weigh all necessary measures that can bolster our position in the upcoming meeting of the agency scheduled in March," he added, referring to the next meeting of the Board of Governors of the IAEA tentatively scheduled in early February that will very likely discuss Iran's dossier.
