Foreign Ministry spokesman Hamid-Reza Asefi here Sunday, responding to a question about the call by Persian Gulf Cooperation Council for security guarantees about the activities at Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant, said that the UN nuclear watchdog has once confirmed its safety standards and its conformity with international standards.
Talking to reporters in his weekly press briefing, he added that the power plant is completely in line with international regulations and this has also been confirmed by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), therefore there is no need for such concerns by the Persian Gulf states.
Replying to a question about the four Iranian citizens arrested in Iraq, he expressed regret over their arrest and said that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is continuing its efforts through influential Iraqi groups for the release of the detainees.
Answering a question about blocking the deposit account of Iranian Embassy in Rome at an Italian bank, he noted that the case will be investigated in a few days and that the Foreign Ministry will continue its attempts through diplomatic and legal channels.
Responding to a question about US claims on Iran's interference in Iraqi election, he said, "This is a trivial claim and Iran has no reason for meddling in Iraq's internal affairs such as its election.
"To cover up its weaknesses, the American administration brings up such baseless claims, some of which are so repetitious and worthless that they do not even deserve a reply."
About Israel's offer to pay 10 million dollars to Iran to get access to information about the missing Israeli pilot, Ron Arad, he said, "Do you believe the stingy Israelis would pay such an amount merely to get information about Arad?
"Even if they paid the amount, this would be impossible, given that nothing is known about the individual's fate. Besides, it is not related to us."
Replying to the last question concerning whether Iran's new proposals for nuclear negotiation were brought up at Wednesday Iran-EU3 meeting and Europeans reaction to them, he said that Iran presented its proposals, but that the reaction to this should be seen at the upcoming talks.
Asefi noted that so long only one meeting has been held on the issue and things like this will be clarified in future talks.
Prior to responding to media questions, the spokesman offered felicitations on the birth anniversary of Jesus Christ (AS) and the New Christian Year to Christians all over the world, particularly those of Iranian origin.
