New round of Iran-EU talks should be based on definite timetable

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Tehran, Dec 19, IRNA
Iran-Nuclear-Araqchi
The new round of Iran-EU nuclear talks should be based on a definite timetable, purposeful and serious, said deputy foreign minister for legal and international affairs Abbas Araqchi here on Monday.

Araqchi told IRNA that the Islamic Republic of Iran has been in talks with EU3 and EU based on goodwill since the past three years but the Europeans' proposed initiative failed to recognize Tehran's inalienable rights, therefore the negotiations were suspended.

He said efforts for resumption of the talks have been successful and new round of the talks will be held in Vienna on December 21. "We hope they will proceed in a way that their outcome will satisfy both sides," he added.

To meet targets, said Araqchi, the talks should be based on a specific time frame and be held with interest in settling the case.

He added that the European party should show necessary seriousness in order for the talks be fruitful.

Araqchi said that Iran's absolute and legitimate rights for production of fuel for civilian use and for providing necessary confidence over the fact that Iran's enrichment will not be derailed towards non-peaceful purposes will be two major focal points of the talks.

He hoped that the European party will enter talks with goodwill and in order to meet the objectives.

Asked on the role of other countries in the talks, Araqchi said, "Unfortunately, certain countries, which have always been following a non-constructive guideline, are now busy preparing the ground for failure of the talks."
He said that the group of countries have since before the start of the talks been clearly insinuating that they will not be fruitful.

He stressed that such an attitude is 'unacceptable', hoping that the European party would give negative response to such temptations and would try to help the talks go on based on goodwill and achieve desired results.
