Australian envoy: Iran entitled to production of nuclear energy

Australian Ambassador to Tehran Gregory Lawrence Moriaty here Tuesday said that Iran is entitled to produce nuclear energy and expressed his country's continued encouragement for Iran's further transparency and confidence building.

According to Majlis media department, speaking at a meeting with Head of Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Alaeddin Boroujerdi, the diplomat added despite the difference of idea between officials of the two states in this respect, Australian prime minister, foreign minister and other state officials urge the need for multifaceted expansion of relations.

Turning to Iran as an influential regional country, he lauded its role in promoting peace and stability in Iraq and Afghanistan and called for its continuation in the developments of the region.

For his part, Boroujerdi welcomed the determination of Australia's political and parliamentary authorities for bolstering mutual ties and stressed the support of Majlis and the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission for strengthening relations.

He said that Iran intends to follow up its nuclear issue by inviting foreign governments and private sectors to participate in its atomic program in order to be more transparent and build up confidence.

He said that Iran has always been in favor of a world free of nuclear arms, given its religious and international commitments, in particular based on Article 6 of the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty.

He regretted the negative vote of western countries to Iran's proposed resolution on nuclear disarmament.
