IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Tehran, Dec 6, IRNA
Iran-Sweden-Jalili
Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister for Europe and American Affairs Saeid Jalili said Tuesday cooperation between Iran and the UN nuclear watchdog is progressing.

Iran has voluntarily adopted measures to prove transparency in its nuclear activities and build confidence, he said in his meeting with Swedish Undersecretary of State Hans Dahlgren in Stockholm on the sidelines of the sixth Iran-Sweden Joint Economic Commission meeting, the Information and Press Department of the Iranian Foreign Ministry reported.

Jalili, at the meeting, called on foreign firms to participate in Iran's nuclear activities as a means of building trust in their peaceful nature, the report added.

The Swedish official, Dahlgren, reponded by saying that the world would welcome Iranian measures to build confidence and welcomed its commitment to the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) as a constructive first step.

He expressed hope that the two countries will progress in their political talks and further boost bilateral relations.

Earlier today, Jalili took part in a seminar in Stockholm aimed at probing the investment opportunities and economic potentials of Iran and briefed Swedish company managers on Iranian measures to attract foreign investment.

Iran's resources and strategic location in the Persian Gulf and proximity to Afghanistan and Iraq puts it in a vantage position as far as foreign investment is concerned, he told the seminar.

A number of Iranian businessmen residing in Sweden and their Swedish counterparts were the participants in the one-day seminar.
