EU Commissioner: Diplomatic solution to Iran's nuclear issue best solution

European Commissioner for external relations, Benita Ferrero-Waldner, expressed hope Wednesday that the expected resumption of negotiations between Iran and the EU-3 (France, Germany and the UK) would lead to a solution to the nuclear issue.

"We always said that the diplomatic solution would be the best solution so certainly we support the EU-3. Hopefully there is a chance," the Commissioner said in statements made to IRNA in Brussels.

"We completely support the EU-3 and we do hope that in the end there will be a solution whereby Iran completely refrains from having a nuclear activity that could go for enrichment, which means that could go for Iran becoming a nuclear-weapon state."
"We always had the same goal and we continue to have the same goal," added Ferrero-Waldner.

Iran has given 'objective guarantee' to International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) that Iranian nuclear program will not be diverted from civilian purpose.

IAEA Charter specified Additional Protocol to Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) as 'objective guarantee' to ensure that nuclear programs of the member states will not be diverted to manufacture bomb.

Iran signed the Additional Protocol to NPT in December 2003 which grants short notice inspection to all nuclear sites by UN nuclear watchdog.

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said in his address to World Summit in New York last September that Iranian nuclear program is transparent and open to IAEA inspection.

"Cameras of IAEA are installed on all Iranian nuclear sites monitoring them. Iranian nuclear program is civilian and in line with Safeguards Agreement of IAEA."
