Iran-Nuclear-Boroujerdi
Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Chairman Alaeddin Boroujerdi said here Saturday that Iran's favorable cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Organization (IAEA) determined the direction of the Board of Governors November meeting.
He said that during the September meeting, in an irrational move a severe resolution was issued against Iran which for the first time resulted in disruption of the Board of Governors process of following up the case and traditional voting on it.
"Iran's close cooperation with the deputy of the agency's Director General Mohamed ElBaradei during his visit to Tehran and inspection of the country's nuclear facilities accounted for the relevant report issued in favor of Iran.
"In his report about Iran, ElBaradei had referred to six measures taken by the country as positive and that Iran had not deviated from the NPT," he added.
He noted that the outlook of the IAEA experts made the grounds inappropriate for submitting any proposal or issuing any resolution.
Turning to the letter of the Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council Ali Larijani to the foreign ministers of the three EU members which declared Iran's readiness for any type of cooperation, he said that it had a positive impact upon their decision.
"Majlis draft-bill warning the Board of Governors that in case of referral of its nuclear dossier to the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), Iran would suspend voluntary actions taken as
confidence-building measures also proved effective in the outcome of the November meeting.
"All these measures made the three EU member states stop referring the case to the UNSC as they found the prevailing atmosphere quite inappropriate for such a measure," he added.
"The Europeans' new outlook on the realities about Iran's peaceful use of nuclear energy could continue in future based on the same logic, which depends upon the country's efforts to this end.
"The US does not wish the current trend to continue and it would be up to the next steps to be taken by Iran as well as other factors to determine the future atmosphere of the Board of Governors meeting," concluded the MP.
